Huami’s Amazfit GTS 2 Mini is coming next week: What can we expect?

Huami has confirmed the launch of yet another wearable before the end of the year, the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini.
Little is known about its specs, but we expect it could be a more affordable version of the smartwatch.

Wearable maker Huami debuted the Amazfit GTS 2 a little under a month ago. Now, it seems a “mini” version may be coming fairly shortly. According to official Weibo teasers, the firm is set to launch the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini on December 1.

The teasers are pretty opaque, though, paying homage to “mini” tablets and drones that have graced the tech space. We imagine these are hints that the smartwatch will be a lighter, smaller, and hopefully cheaper version of the GTS 2. We don’t believe the GTS 2 Mini will sprout wings or a large display.

Based on earlier FCC listings, the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini will likely keep its larger sibling’s squared face. The wearable will also likely sport a large button on its right flank with substantial bezels with a design reminiscent of the Amazfit Bip U. It’s possible Huami would trade the GTS 2’s AMOLED display for a cheaper, thicker-bezel screen.

Beyond this, we really don’t know what the GTS 2 Mini will feature in terms of raw specs. If it’s anything like the GTS 2, we can expect a 24-hour heart-rate monitor, multiple activity tracking modes, water resistance, and onboard storage for music. Onboard GPS and blood oxygen saturation monitoring would be a bonus.

But how much cheaper could the GTS 2 Mini be? It’s unclear where Huami wants to place its latest smartwatch on the Amazfit roster. The Bip U retails for ~$47 in India. The GTS 2 arrived for around $100 more in China. There’s a broad slot for Huami to play in, but we’ll have to wait and see how generous the firm will be.
